The Florida Youth Basketball Association was founded
in 1997 by Art Maggio and Mike Doyle as the Palm
Beach Youth Travel Basketball League. They
strived to add some continuity for basketball
players by adding a travel league like those
found in soccer and baseball.
The league started in the spring of 1998 with
only 10 teams and has grown to over 75 teams.
The Florida Youth Basketball Association is the
largest travel basketball program in Florida and
probably the entire East Coast. The league spans
five counties (St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach,
Broward and Dade) and has incorporated 25
communities and organizations.
The league changed its name to Florida Youth
Basketball Association for the Spring 2004
season in order to show its growth outside of
Palm Beach County area.
